Have a diverse move-set ready to go as you go into the dungeon, but ideally you'll have some Water and Ice moves in there. A lot of enemies have weaknesses to those, and Groudon will too at the end. Magma Cavern is a harsh area that often inflicts burns and poisonings. More equipment wouldn't be a bad idea, but this is the bare minimum you should have prepared.

Some wild Pokemon are far bigger threats than others, usually owing to special moves that do huge damage or can hit your whole team at once. Sandslash, Magcargo, Onix, Golem and Rhyhorn are the worst offenders - if you see one, prioritize killing it as fast as possible. Moves like Magnitude or Superpower can be devastating if unleashed. Rescue and hire as many Pokemon as possible along the way. Given that this is a massive dungeon with a boss fight at the end, it is highly recommended that players bring as many Apples, Oran Berries, and Reviver Seeds as you possibly can.

Recruit as many Pokemon along the way as you can, as this can make the journey and eventual boss fight a little bit easier. After you have reached 23 floors, you will have one more floor to go in the Pit before a boss fight ensues with Groudon. Groudon can be one of the easiest or hardest fights, depending on your set up. Fire Type Pokemon need to watch out for this fight in particular. If you have a large group of Pokemon you've recruited, this can be an easier fight as you could let them be cannon fodder.
