This angers the resident baseball coach, who hangs Meowth from a tree as punishment. Whilst hanging, Meowth sees a movie named That Darn Meowth! Believing Hollywood to be a paradise, he decides to venture there with renewed hopes and dreams - which would be where he finally learned to speak.
A Meowth-gang decides to take him in, allowing him to live on the streets as a member and cause havoc across town. While Meowth experienced a considerable amount of neglect in his formative years, he held on to his idealism even in the face of adversity.
One day, he encounters a female Meowth named Meowzie, who rejects him for being poor, saying that she preferred humans anyway. In an attempt to please her and evoke affection, Meowth went to painstaking lengths to speak the human language, even going as far to walk upright. An orphan growing up on the streets falls in with a rough crowd, steals to get by and has his heart broken by a girl.
Sounds almost Dickensian, right? Meowth might say so, though it's unclear if he's read any Charles Dickens. Do you have proven online publishing experience? Click HERE and join our team! To the surprise of cohorts Jessie and James, this isn't Meowth's first visit to the city. In a series of flashbacks, Meowth waxes somberly on how he came to Hollywood as a youngster chasing a dream of being well-fed in paradise, inspired by the film That Darn Meowth!
While running with Persian and his gang of misfit Meowths, Meowth fell deeply in love with Meowzie, a Meowth far out of his league. With nothing to offer her, and nothing particularly special about him , Meowth focused his efforts to make himself worthy of her affections, and in doing so, became more human-like.
Nightly, Meowth listened in on English classes, studied diligently and, eventually, learned how to speak and read. Soon thereafter, Meowth walked confidently up to Meowzie on his own two legs and, in perfect English, laid bare his innermost feelings. He was promptly ignored, his affections rejected. Across the street, Team Rocket are about to enter, seeing that the street is deserted, when Meowth suddenly decides to leave, promising Jessie and James to return before the start of the movie.
Meowth arrives at an old run-down snack house, and recalls his first time there: back then, the snack stand was prosperous, and when he had tried to get food, he was caught stealing by the store owner, and in the ensuing chase, he had lost his food.
Having eluded the chef, he was approached by a gang of Meowth, led by a Persian , and was accepted into the gang. Through the gang, he was able to satiate his hunger by stealing the food he needed, but found that he was still missing some love in his life.
Coming to the boarded-up remains of what was once a posh department store, Meowth recalls the first time meeting his first crush, another Meowth named Meowzie , at the window of that store. He recalls having dashed across the street to meet her, causing a major traffic pileup in the process, only to be rebuked. Meowth vowed at that point to try to become human in order to impress her.
Back in the present day, Meowth comes across a run-down mansion, recalling his time there. Back in the day, the mansion was home to an academy that taught students upper-class etiquette.
Through spying on one of the classrooms, he had learned, albeit slowly, how to walk - the drawback being that he got caught more often whenever he tried to steal food having only to run on two legs instead of four. Eventually, he had also managed to speak human language, again from observing the classes. The first word he had understood was rocket. At this point, Meowth breaks into song, believing that his new talents would win Meowzie over. However, when he returned to Meowzie to show off his talents, he was quickly dismissed as a freak, worse than a street Meowth.
Angry over her rejection, Meowth set off to be the richest freak she ever saw, all to win her over. His journey eventually landed him at Team Rocket, and the rest is history. As he finishes reminiscing, however, he is surrounded by his old gang, and he agrees to follow Persian, which does not go unnoticed by Jessie and James, who were about to enter the theater without him.
